I'm looking into to buying a video capture device to transfer old horror films on VHS on to DVD.

Some of the reviews on Amazon go from brilliant to terrible.

Anyone use one?

Never used one but what I did was connect a scart cable from the back of my VHS into the back of my DVD recorder. I would then play the video I wanted recorded in my VHS player and copy it on to a blank DVD.

i've a dazzle DV bridge that's YEARS old but works great (captures everything to PAL DV over firewire) and i really need to get cracking on that stack of VHS tapes under my desk so YEAH THANK'S A LOT FOR REMINDING ME

started doing my stack of VHS tapes this evening. boooorrriinnnggg.

And i can't remember if audio from the PC is captured along with the video tape audio. that would suck.

Fuck that ,can you not get them as torrents...ripping videos is a waste of time...unless they're the only extant copy of what they are....OB

I have a ton of stuff I need to rip (weird stuff from TV - VHS that never got released) - need to get around to it soon...

A mate have mine has ripped some pretty rare shit then released via torrents.

This morning I captured-
The kabinboy & Refused from 1998
The redneck manifesto's first ever gig & the sorts, both from the funnel bar
Drop Dead playing in a flat on the NCR

Some other stuff.

most of this stuff is out there already but my pc has caught up with what's needed to fix the picture quality while rendering so hopefully they'll look better...

next tape i picked up: Holy Rollers in Barnstormers from 1993, filmed in glorious MeroVision

there's about 1 minute of Gout at the start of it. Wonder what else is on it. Maybe Grotus & Victim's Family?

the one earlier also had Good Clean Fun & Tooth(?) in Doyles from August 2000
