i wathed the one where they made shit of the pyramids - it had a certain enjoyment to it; i was possibly finding things funny which weren't meant to be, though. john turturro was the only person to emerge with his dignity intact from that.

It is. I went to see this last night for a laugh.
Of course the film is bollocks, but yeah, Michael Bay must REALLY hate women. Like, the girl in it is basically just a complete piece of meat throughout the whole film, with two dudes arguing over which one owns her. It's mad.

Age of Extinction is a movie about how the Transformers movies ruined movies. It’s Michael Bay using the master’s tools to sabotage the master’s fleet of Ferraris. It’s a $200 million viewing apparatus for staring into the abyss.

It’s excess pushed to the point of near-total abstraction and a perfect metaphor for the movie: Look at all of this junk. Look at how pretty it is when it flies around. I don’t know that I would ever have pegged Michael Bay as the first director who’d manage to turn the summer blockbuster into a critique of the blockbuster mentality and still make hundreds of millions of dollars doing it. But like the old Vulcan proverb says, only Nixon could go to China.
