Your pal's tune up there sounds like a different take on classic surf , it has unusual scales and time signatures ..just missing the reverb which is what makes it a 'surf' song, I didn't make the rules, ask anyone

If I posted a 'gypsy jazz song' full of tremelo and distortion I wouldn't be surprised if someone suggested losing the effects
