i wanted to at least give a list, but without buoying up any of the threads of shite they've posted.

anyone know any more?

alpharelish
anyone to do with things you're missing
anyone who has ever advertised a gig here ever

andrew "who cares" andrew

"krys", "sallyjl", "Johnny Moore", "play1236" & "john thunder" = one IP address.

Well surprise surprise.

how is this even an issue?
these accounts hardly ever post, and the amount of replies to their threads is usually huge
you're probably helping them cos they undoubtably go back to their bosses or whatever and are like "oh look 20 people on this board showed interest in this band", even though most of the replies were usually just the boring stock post of "omg i spotted a marketing account!!!"

sayin.
andrew

yeah, you're probably partly right. it's a matter of balancing the need to point it out with the need to ignore it... for example, if they're able to post all their shite without any hassle, there's only going to be more shite coming, and more of it. so there's advantages and disadvantages to calling them on it. so i'm trying to call them on it with a different thread, which kind of partly addresses the problem.

em... sayin.

oh and compactrisc is one word.

sayin.

calling people out is fine, but do you actually think these cats are even reading this board???
they're doing the same on cluas or boards.ie by this stage...

andrew

nothin wrong with people promoting their own projects of gigs on thumped - thats its function - community music. its these unsolicited fucks with their "hey check out this great new single by sucksatanscock" type posts that are the equivalent of junk mail.

BTW

buy my book!

Its called "Plus One: A life lived on the edge of the guestlist"

thanks for pointing that out to me there, ian mackaye
just ignore it and it'll prove to be a completely useless means of marketing, it'll sink to the bottom of the list and we can all go around tlaking about eachothers bands until we grow out of stupid music. i'm hoping i do this in the next 6 months.

andrew

yeah but it's not for their benefit, it's for other people's. sure, if you did a google on the exact text they've just posted, you'd get a shit load of boards with the same spam, but the more hassle is made for them (preferably without extending the longevity of their threads) in the long run, the less likely they are to post in future; it just not going to be worth their while when they could just find some more amenable board.
