Forgive me for being so vague, but someone (dunno who) was telling me lately (dunno when) about a club somewhere (dunno where) where there is no dedicated DJ, but everyone there is allowed to play any three songs they like. It could be hella shambolic, but if everyone played their three favourite, most upifting songs it could be great. Let's hire Slatterys for free! Sure all you'd have to pay for is the chimps!

thats a brilliant idea! myself and a couple of friends used to do that when we were drinking. great fun, the more diverse the better.

Great song, although I always preferred "Way Behind Me".

Off the top of my head, some others that I really like:

Loads of XTC: "Earn Enough for Us", "Senses Working Overtime", "Mayor of Simpleton"...I could go on. Possibly the best pure pop band since the Beatles.

The Bangles' version of "Going Down to Liverpool" (the Katrina & The Waves original is good as well).

The Beta Band's "She's the One".

Adam & The Ants, "Antmusic".

On another thread, somebody mentioned A House's "I Am the Greatest". Brilliant, but "Call Me Blue" beats it by a hair.

AR Kane's "Crack Up" would be very high up there.

Not very well-known, but "Love Is the Law" by The Suburbs (a Minneapolis band who were on Twin\Tone at the same time as The Replacements) is great.

Actually, The 'Mats had several very cool pop songs: "I Will Dare", "Alex Chilton" and "I'll Be You" come to mind.
