Is it a true statistic that there are more suicides in Ireland than road deaths?

i've seen this mentioned several times today in relation to patrick ahern's comments.
it's an odd comparison. one might be forgiven, based on a cursory glance, in believing that the goal of suicide prevention is to get the numbers below those of road deaths.
