My uncle has been told that he'll be laid off on a temporary basis from this Friday, with the possibility there'll be work for him again on January 19th. Next week is being taken as holidays, which means he'll be off work for a total of 3 weeks.

From what I can make out from the citizens information website he'll need a P45 to claim jobseekers benefit for the 3 weeks he's out of work, but he's just told me his employer intends providing him with a letter stating his circumstances. I've told him to query this with his boss, but in the mean time has anybody got any experience of this and how it is dealt with by Social Welfare?

I just started a temporary job today

When the contract is up on the 23rd I will need to get a p45 off the employer to present to the Social Welfare

I will be resuming employment with them in the new year under a new contract

The social welfare will cover the days that I'm not being paid

The boss shouldn't have any problem issuing your uncle a p45, maybe a letter will get the ball rolling but I'm sure the welfare will still look for the p45.
