What the fuck is the story here?

She gave an opinion without having the full facts and the trial collapses.

The reason she changed her mind was she just now saw Harbison's notes, wasn't previously allowed to see the full info, on the DPP's orders.

The DPP effectively sabotaged his own case and the poor little rich boys got off, oddly enough, who could have seen this one coming?

Cassidy was set up, gladly took the fall and has now shafted herself.

Of course, there may still be a case to answer by that cunt, rich boy, Laide. But, even if came to court, he'll get off with it as he'll now never have the chance of a "fair" trial. And he also has right to justice being done in a certain time-frame (Whereas I can appreciate how rich boy, Brian McFadden, can use this excuse for a poxy speeding ticket, I think the fact that there's no statute of limitations on murder/manslaughter should negate this fact. Should, but won't).

The DPP didn't effectivly sabotage his won case. He deliberately sabotaged it if he didn't allow Cassidy to see the files relating to the case, yet still required of her a cause of death.

This whole thing stinks. They say Italy is corrupt as no one ever goes to prison there. Hello?!!

I was glad that John Harbison was vindicated.

Felt bad for him at the time that his judgement had been called into question especially as he was quite ill & had spent so many years with an unblemished record.

Marie Cassidy comes across very poorly though.

That was the DPP's argument. That one witness can't give testimony based on another's.

I don't know if there would have been scope for a judge to bend the rules, but it seemed like a no-brainer at the time that a whole new autopsy couldn't be performed that long after the murder - *ahem* I mean, unlawful killing - presuming she was working on either a highly decomposed body or none at all.

And this isn't the only report Cassidy's backtracking on. Isn't the report on the wee kid who was killed in Middleton also coming under question?

It's partly her fault, though. The DPP says one thing, her job says another. As much as the DPP may have supplied her with the autopsy report, she could have - and presumably should have - asked for it in her review.

She should be fired. Who knows what else she's messed up.

There's no one qualified to replace her.

YEah, wouldn't fancy it myself, not only do you have to clean and cut up the bodies but you have to observe and record absolutely every little detail. Miss one tiny, little thing and some defence council rips you a new asshole and the murdering scum goes home scot free!
