Spanish civil war (1 Viewer)

Hugh Thomas' The Spanish Civil War is the beginning and end of straight-ahead histories of it. Fantastic read, especially the first thrird which deals with the years leading up to the war.

Then, for colour, read Homage to Catalonia by Orwell.
Haven't read that Hemmingway one.
Javier Cercas' Soldiers of Salamis is worth a shot.
Giles Tremlett's Ghosts of Spain is a nice sketch of the effect the war has on the people, the state and the culture ever since.

Guernica by Pablo Picasso. For whom the bell tolls by Hemingway are two great works of art routed in the Spanish civil war.

You could also investigate ropey Manic's lyrics...

or better yet read some of the books suggested by vasco, he even has a spanish sounding name.

it's a not-very-well-known-fact that the spanish civil war was actually fought entirely by lego armies
