Tapes ‘n Tapes

Tapes ‘n Tapes first came to major prominence over here with the release of their first full length ‘The Loon’ on XL Recordings in 2006. Featuring the infectiously catchy single ‘Insistor’ blending high octane indie and experimental rock, Tapes ‘n Tapes had arrived.

Soundtrack 08 will see Tapes n’ Tapes perform from their new album ‘Walk It Off’ which is released in May. Recorded with producer Dave Fridmann (Mercury Rev, Mogwai, MGMT) at his Tarbox Road studio in Upstate New York. Josh Grier from the band explains how they “want it to sound like us playing these songs and not some crazy orchestration or something. I want it to sound how it's going to sound when we play it live."

Sons & Daughters

After their sold out Whelans show in February, Glaswegians Sons & Daughters returned to the musical fray with ‘The Gift’ which was produced by Suede’s Bernard Butler. For the last five years Sons And Daughters have worked towards fashioning a distinctive sound, image and story. Inspired by the melancholy storytelling of Lee Hazlewood, the lyricism of Bill Callaghan and Leonard Cohen and the raw power of country, blues and folk, the Glasgow-based four-piece have been busy creating their own world and making it an interesting place to live in since 2002.
The punk blues of their 2004 debut Love The Cup and 2005’s The Repulsion Box have won fans such as Nick Cave and Franz Ferdinand and marked Sons And Daughters out as a band of fine taste and judgment.

Port O’Brien

On their first ever European trip, Port O’Brien make their Irish debut at Soundtrack 08. Beginning in early 2005 as a folkish duo from The Bay Area in California added a rhythm section to flesh it out to the current five piece.

With their debut album ‘All We Could Do Was Sing’ scheduled for release this summer on City Slang, it features lush string arrangements, raw electric guitar, percussive banjo, pots + pans, a tight rhythm section, group chants and screaming providing a diverse, but cohesive feel.

M.Ward cited Port O’Brien as his favourite new band on the influential Pitchfork Media site last year and now we have a chance to find out why Ward along with the likes of Bright Eyes and Modest Mouse are singing their praises.
