SoundCheck’s 1st Birthday Party – Thursday May 28th
UnaRocks and Sarah Fox, the evil genii behind SOUNDCHECK, Dublin’s best indie night, are delighted to be celebrating the club night’s first birthday party this Thursday.

SoundCheck, which began as an evening soiree and an alternative to some of the grimier indie nights around town, has been running in Spy on South William Street for a year. After it’s initial incarnation, SoundCheck morphed into a late night club, eventually joining forces with our sister club Le Cirque.

Offering a consistently quality and fun approach to indie music, SoundCheck is typified by an eclectic crowd and huge arsenal of DJs. In fact, the bulk of a new crop of Dublin DJs now gigging around town got their first start at SoundCheck.

Over the past year, SoundCheck has seen bands, journalists, bloggers, DJs and general randomers take to the decks, making it the most diverse indie night around, with the sound changing on an hourly basis before descending into an all out crazy party. Guest DJs in the last 12 months include Fight Like Apes, Heathers, Nialler9, Jim Carroll, Rick O’Shea, The Vinny Club, Adrian Crowley, Ham Sandwich, Super Extra Bonus Party, Philth, Grand Pocket Orchestra, Halves, Delorentos, Codes, You’re Only Massive, Sweet Jane, Dark Room Notes, Messiah J & The Expert, Le Galaxie, Skinny Wolves, Bitches With Wolves, New Amusement, Will St Leger, Dublin Streets and too many more to mention!

We’ve also hosted after-parties for Vampire Weekend, Death Cab For Cutie, Urban Outfitters, and more. SoundCheck has become a magnet for visiting bands, with everyone from Sigur Ros to Ladyhawke popping in to check out the vibe.

Featuring our free cupcake buffet which often descends into a food fight, two-for-one cocktails every night, and the freshest tunes and most chilled crowd you’re likely to find, SoundCheck has pushed the boundaries of what an indie night should be, with its influence now felt in club nights and bars around the city.

For our party, we’re hardly going to celebrate quietly! An almost endless array of DJs featuring our favourite special guests from throughout the year, some new faces and other surprises will rock down to South William Street to play their hearts out. As ever, our French Fancies will be served, but this time by some very hawt people (we like hawt people!). We’ll be giving our regulars some boozy freebies, and other goodies. FionnTimes will don his Father Fionn identity and whizz around in a limousine taking SoundCheck confessions, and an awesome magician will be on hand to screw with your mind! There will also be Twister, food fights, DJ battles and the trademark rowdiness that makes SoundCheck what it is. Photographers will also be there on the night to capture the moments for our popular SoundCheck blog (http://soundcheckdublin.wordpress.com)

Our friends at Ben & Jerry’s will also be supplying some yummy ice cream for you all to gobble on the night.
So head down to our 1st Birthday Party this Thursday (28th) to celebrate with us. It kicks off at 7pm, and rocks until late. Free in before 11pm, just a fiver after.
Una and Sarah would like to sincerely thank all of our friends at Spy, our dedicated SoundCheck regulars, all the acts who have played over the past year, and anyone who has ever dropped in and had a blast. We are loving it.

One year down, a bajillion to go!

Ps. What's the 'shape throwing' that is referred to in the poster. Is it a bit like 'air guitar', with the air being people, just existing?
Yours etc
unclarified.

After reading many cynical ripostes to the press releases that Una puts up here, I thought the night would be a poseur sandwich, but after heading down there a while back its really really fun actually .|..| and I've popped in a few times now.

Cocktails are dirt cheap, the music is tongue in cheek often without being cheesy and its all mostly bang up to the minute... Plus the whole vibe IS pretty chilled. Never saw anything resembling a food fight though!

TONIGHT FROM 7PM!

In this order we've got:
Adrian Crowley
Orphan Code
Bitches With Wolves
The Rack Pack
Anthony Remedy
Sarah Fox
UnaRocks

Free in before 11pm, fiver after. Spy, South William St.

I went to this once merely to enviously gaze at people's haircuts.

Will it be a magician or a mathimagician on tonight?

Both are equally fun.
