i've a friend who's getting her partner an amp for xmas. he plays electric and acoustic guitar, isn't in any bands but it incredibly 'into' his music...he's recently finished building a music room at the bottom of their garden in suburbia...

the budget is - €450/€500 and it can't be bought over the internet as it won't be here in time for xmas...so any suggestions?

good people of thumped please help!!!

she had this one on a shortlist of one - is it any good?

thanks for that - much appreciated!

at the risk of sounding utterly ignorant of all things amp, what are the main positive benefits of plumbing for the fender that you both recommend as opposed to the marshall on the link posted?

i promise this is the last question!

It's hard to put any simpler than : that Marshall is junk.
Alternatives would be an Epiphone Valve Jr. (Someone said they're decent, right?) or a Laney LC-15.

Those little Marshall effects jobbies, are plasticky shite and sound it.
A JCM800 on the other hand rules all, so Marshall's aint all bad.

The Blues Jnr is a 15 w valve amp, valves give a lovely warm natural feel.
And also it's reverb is a spring reverb whitch means your guitar signal goes through an actual metal spring at the base of the amp, again giving a more natural warm feel as apposed to an artificial computery reverb effect.

I know nothing about those Epiphone's other than they look cool.

You could prolly get a Blues Jnr in Goodwins on capel st. I think I saw one there last week.

RED(tape)MENACE and Ian - many many thanks for your advice, really appreciate it

off to goodwins we go!

happy christmas lads
