Six Organs of Admittance (1 Viewer)

I dunno, it left me a bit cold. Felt a bit 'by numbers' for some reason, like he threw the usual mix of chanty vocals and guitar lines together but none of it really gelled
I thought it was a great album, it really impressed me and was an improvement on The Sun Awakens.

New one on the way

The next Six Organs of Admittance album, Luminous Night, is set to be released on Drag City in August.
  1. Actaeon’s Fall (Against The Hounds)
  2. Anesthesia
  3. Bar-Nasha
  4. Cover Your Wounds With The Sky
  5. Ursa Minor
  6. River Of Heaven
  7. The Ballad Of Charley Harper
  8. Enemies Before The Light
Recorded and produced by Randall Dunn at Aleph Studios in Seattle, Washington. A serious crew of musicians on this one, including Eyvind Kang on viola and Hans Teuber on alto flute (think samurai movie jams), among others.

Ben Chasney is working on a book of Six Organs guitar tabs, you can request which songs he transcribes over on myspace:

I want to mention that I am currently making a Six Organs guitar TAB book. I'm not really sure how big it is going to end up but I am thinking about 15 songs from the whole catalogue. What I am wondering is, are there any requests for any particular songs for me to TAB? So far I have already done Hallow Light Severed Sun, Words For Two, Elk River and Home. i was thinking i would probably do School of The Flower as well. After that, I am not sure. So basically I am taking requests. Any jams anyone might be interested in having me TAB? If not, it's all gonna be basically what's easiest for me to do!

New album is brilliant, good mix of old acoustic sounds and new dreamy spaced out stuff a lot of it courtesy of Eyvind Kang I'd say. This one will get a lot of late nite airplay over the next while I reckon.

Liking it so far, seems a very different album to everything else he's done. In many ways it doesn't feel like a Six Organs record, the way it's mixed... moody vocals more to the fore, guitars kinda taking a backseat.

Kinda like it's a movie score or something. Must give it further listens...

So Chasny has a new band with Sir Richard Bishop and Chris Corsano, holy shit, that could be like the most amazing thing ever! They've an album recorded already and will be playing shows next year. Something to look forward to indeed.

i see corsano is in whelans on 23rd november... anyway, this is how they were live:

After a lengthy break, the crowd was treated to the main event: the unveiling of a new supergroup consisting of friends Sir Richard Bishop (Sun City Girls), Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance, Comets on Fire), and Chris Corsano. The online marquee promised a night of free-form jazz. Shoup and Corsano delivered it in spades, but the trio of Bishop/Chasny/Corsano weren’t about to remotely hit a jazz note, launching into a skronk-filled seizure of psychedelia and classic rock. Bishop’s Middle Eastern influences were absent, Chasny’s folk tendencies replaced by angry spasms of punchy guitar, and Corsano’s earlier restraint tossed aside as his arms became the envy of Stretch Armstrong.
Over the course of 40 minutes and 5 songs, the newly minted group switched between early ’80s no-wave spurred by the likes of Teenage Jesus and Sonic Youth, and more melodic psychedelia. Each and every note, chord, and drum smack was pure rock and roll ooze. Bishop and Chasny played with an old abandon once familiar to ’70s arena rock, though the glossy production and slick stage show was replaced by the blood and guts of a genre that has been quartermained in every direction the past 30 years.
The crowd was immediately sucked in, with bearded and bespectacled masses bobbing heads and thrashing arms in unison — some wallflowers of course stuck to hands-in-pocket and eyes-on-shoes, but that’s to be expected in a world where dancing and movement have been relegated to signs of pop dominance, not physical displays of appreciation. Perhaps when the trio’s album arrives in the near future (they are currently in a Seattle studio working on an album with Scott Colburn), everyone will let their guard down and cut loose like Bishop, Chasny, and Corsano did at the Sunset.

six organs have a busy time of it between now and xmas anyways. Lots of dates in the UK but nothin here. I suppose whose left to bring over an act like this anymore anyway?

It was twisted robot last time, wasn't it? Haven't heard a peep from him since I heard he was driving Animal Collective's bus that time they didn't make it to Ireland in time.

Just got 'Empty The Sun' today, it's a book by Joseph Mattson with an LP of accompanying music by Ben Chasney

Listening now, it's more folky Takoma-type stuff with background psych elements - more like early Six Organs stuff

I'll probably never actually get around to reading the book but it looks nice .|..|
