Shock/Bodytonic:
Shockitmo 2. This Saturday 13th June, Bernard Shaw, 1pm - 1am

This Saturday 13th June we cross swords once again with Jonnie Wilkes & Keith McIvor (JG Wilkes and JD Twitch) more often known as Glasgow's Optimo DJs

Since last we met they've been around the world several more times and released the beautiful tribute to the cassette mix; Sleepwalk on Domino Records.

The Optimo's combine everything from driving techno to northern soul, New York post punk to industrial stomp. Those who's bought the 'Kill the DJ' Mix will testify the genius is not purely the tracks the play but the way they combine them to such effect.

While Wilkes DJs, McIvor diligently taps at a laptop computer by his side, sampling and remixing records as they play. On one occasion, the duo hung microphones over the dancefloor, sampled Optimo's crowd singing along to Technotronic's old rave hit 'Pump Up the Jam,' and played it back to them: the crowd ended up dancing to themselves!

Word spread like wildfire, across Europe and around the world. People heard stories of how employers in Glasgow were making employees sign waivers promising not to go to Optimo on Sunday nights. Glaswegians told their friends in London and Dublin and New York about the twisted fucked up magic of Optimo but those who hadn’t been couldn’t pigeonhole Optimo anymore than those who had!

This time round they'll be doing something they never usually do outside their Optimo Espacio night, a non-dancefloor set.
We'll be running a 12 hour party in the Bernard Shaw, from 1pm to 1am. Also playing are Shock Djs, Nightflight Djs + friends.

We'll also be running a small exhibition of prints from graphic designers Jon Averill, James Cullen and Al Kennington (Synth Eastwood)

i have this comp and it is ace.

any idea when the optimo peeps might be djing over the course of this 12 hour extravaganza? i'd really love to catch their non-dancefloor set and/or nerd over their record collection but alas do not have time to spend all day in the bernard shaw.

We'll have a mini-exhibition of prints from Al Kennington, Jon Averill & James Cullen based on the early 1900's Vorticism movement.

& The Bernard Shaw promise us free beer flavoured stuff to give out from 4pm, or we smash the place up real good.
