I want big bands, I don't care who, x factor types, the lot.. to record and perform my songs. How do I make this happen. I want "If Only i Hadn't been born" to be the lazy movie director's "sad" version of Walking On Sunshine or Brown Eyed Girl. How do I make this happen?
Thanks... broke.

Ooh, a mildly related question...

To join IMRO, I need to get a letter from a venue I've played, or something like that. Who do I ask? The gig promoter or venue manager or who da fuh? I'm assuming somebody, somewhere, has a template for this sort of thing.

you can send your cd's to directors and producers and that'll be one step. you can also register your music with certain companies that provide content to films and ads. There are different rates depending on how well known you are. I think Getty actually have started doing it now and there's another company too. it might be playfocus or something? I dunno. pm me.

I'd imagine the market for indie songs is akin to....I dunno, the market for home made specialist apple tarts or something like that. Lots of people making them, but for love, not money. If you were to write non-specific middle-of-the-road American style country songs you'd increase your chances of getting your songs published and sold.

That's actually the direction we're heading in ...

i just use the dregs for mound these days. all the quality tunes get sent to taylor swifts manager.

I hounded everyone I could think of from the cast and crew of Pirates of the Caribbean for a few months trying to get one of Stoat's pirate-y songs into it. All I ever got in return was an unopened envelope with a "we do not listen to unsolicited material" note on it

Probably the best you can do is to get the most famous person you know to cover/remix one of your tunes, and hope the most famous person they know hears it.

i think x factor are more into recycling then actual new songs.

however, should you wish to attempt some country music, write about:

marriage
love
god
beer
love
god
work
buddy's
love
being straight
beer

at around 110-130 bpm using only the key's of g, a and d.
use a 7th chord just before the chorus. (this facilitates the key change for the final chorus)
only use rhymes that you can predict.
use a good two liner joke for the bridge.

send me 50%.

thanks for that. worth a try

Contact popjustice.com with a good song. Tell them if they like it to please send it to Xenomania, say it in a witty way.

If Xenomania like it you'll be writing for Girls Aloud in a few months.

BTW, you better be attractive, even their songwriters and musicians appear to have to be the requisite level of hotness.

Yeah, I think that at very least you need some tentative link with the music industry which can act as a gateway for your tunes to be heard.

But there's plenty of people in advertising on thumped. Get one of them to use one of your tunes in a Super Macs add or something. Or maybe try to come up with jingles for various Irish brands and send them to the CEO.

I just hope to God that whoever wrote the Bargain Town jingle ended up living in a house made of gold. Genius.

Someone mentioned getting a publisher...what people who are in a position to take advantage (have written hits etc) seem to talk about is to have or get a "publishing deal".

I don't know what it means though really. I should have one by the sounds of it...I'm all about the MOR country songs.
