GLASGOW
It's pure dead brilliant.
Make sure you stay a Sunday night and go to Optimo.
I love Glasgow. I'd move there in a flash.
It's an hour from Edinburgh by train.

Don't spend too much time in Edinburgh. It's VERY touristy. Glasgow is definitly the place to go. If you like loads of scenery, try Oban, which is also on the west coast. Or Loch Lomond, which is only 40 minutes away from Glasgow by train...

If you're heading over, PM me. I just happen to be scottish .|..| and come from near Glasgow, so if you need any advice just let me know. :)

I've been in edinburgh twice, luckily both times have been in the off peak tourist season. I like it a lot actually. probably cos there are loads of falafel houses. next place I move, (looks like it's gonna be madrid, quickly followed by a stint in central america), will have lots of falafel houses. they rule. haven't been to glasgow yet unfortunately. they probably have loads of falafel houses there too. by all accounts, glasgow is the place to be if your into your music. edinburgh is relatively dead in that capacity...

anyway, I've driven around a fair bit of scotland, it contains mind blowingly beautiful scenery and some of the bleakest, baren shit I've ever seen. don't be tempted to go near john o'groats. especially around the end of september. like me... I ended up driving around up there on my birthday. the nearest town is a place called thursow, it's like your worst ken loach/lars von trier nightmares made flesh. scary! loads of the north is so underpopulated that you can drive for aaages without seeing a sign of civilisation. loch ness is okay, there's urqhart (sp?) castle, which I'd highly recommend sneaking into at night, instead of paying a fortune into during the day. did the drive around glencoe through a load of mountains and valleys in an unbelievably heavy rainstorm. could see fuck all but it was still breathtaking. saw loads of those big hairy ginger cows too. coolest animals ever, by the way.

and that's only a fraction of scotland. in short, I'd recommend czeching it out.
