i'd love to know what happened to companies like ocean
once the consoles took over...did their programmers go
on to other companies?

who can forget ocean movie tie-in platform classics like
Hudson Hawk and the Blues Brothers!

yeah that could have been one of them alright!

was just thinking how odd, given that at the time there was a lot of stuff going on about kids watching violent videos, then the most popular kids computer comes out with 4 games, pretty much all of which are based on violent films. ahhh the 80s

ah i think the games snuck in nicely
between "video nasty" and "jamie bulger"
stuff....

suppose it started to kick off around the
time of mortal kombat

*Beginning of geeky fact-me-do*

The title music for the Speccy/C64 versions of Robocop really was beautiful - so Ariston decided to nick it and put it in an advert for their fridges and cookers and stuff. They forgot to ask permission though.

Ariston Exec#1 : "That's a top tune! Let's use it. How much you reckon it'll cost?"

Ariston Exec#2: "Sure that's from a computer game, nobody will notice/give a shit!"

Robocop went on to be the best selling 8-bit game ever, so quite a few people noticed in the end.

Ocean bought the rights to the Robocop game when they'd only read the script. A movie with a silly name like Robocop wasn't expected to do well and they didn't exactly have high hopes for the licence. It made them bucket loads of smelly cash though. They used said cash to buy the Batman licence. Batman = tons more cash.

Ocean kept trying the same trick throughout the late 80s and early 90s with the likes of licences like Darkman, Navy Seals, Red Heat, Flight Of The Intruder... all of those movies turned out to be fucking shit though. Hence a slump in Oceans fortunes.

I had that on the bbc micro. Could never beat the first level. For some reason you just had to go to the bottom of the screen and the predator couldn't get ya.

I had a deadly game called commando but im not sure if it was related to one of my favourite movies ever.
