FREE SHOW
Cork instrumental prog-rock four piece Rest return for their first home-show in a year, when they play the Quad's annual Halloween shindig. A decade in existance has seen Rest evolve from a primative stoner-rock crew into a progressive and experimental hard-rock/metal act. Along the way they've dabbled in post-rocks grand designs and epic crescendos, post-metal's gloomy atmospherics and doom's glacial paced dirges. They've supported the likes of Isis, Oxbow, Torche, Baroness, Cult of Luna, Red Sparrows and Zu down through the years. Louder and more uncompromising then ever before, they're currently working on the follow up to their 2007 EP Operation Impending Doom.
People of the Monolith (formerly known as This Weary Hour) is an Atmospheric Sludge band from Cork, Ireland. The band has gone through a transition of styles in its (so-far) short life, from more traditional doom-influenced metal, to a sound that owes a lot to contemporary underground music and the American experimental metal scene. The band's latest recording, No Hand to Comfort You, was released in July 2009. Recently seen supporting Black Sun, with upcoming appearances scheduled for the Dublin Doom Day Festival and a stint with A Storm of Light on their sole Irish appearance this year.
My Name Is Ishmael is the new band from Dave and Wayne of the much-missed Waiting Room (on bass and drums respectively) and Rory from Kerry/Cork instrumentalists Ten Past Seven (and also a brief stint in Waiting Room as well as many other bands/projects). The band are an exciting mix of Shellac-type severity and noise-junk spontanaiety.
