Record Stores In Helsinki, St Petersburg, Moscow and Riga (1 Viewer)

was over in helsinki with the freebooters lately, theres an island with a prison fortress thats well worth a look, theres a youth hostel on the island that does veggie burgers and hemp burgers, helsinki is expensive in a temple bar way, its the most famous thing in town so anyone will tell ya where the island ferry iis, also combat rock records is a deadly record shop there, sure you can google it.

The only shop with a decent Metal section is called Randoms (it's not only a record shop, but also sells souvenirs, etc.). It's right in the middle of the old town and directly across the street from a very, very cheap and tasty TGI Fridays!

There's another shop called Bombers, which is about a 15-20 minute stroll from the city centre, but isn't really worth it as the selction is limited (and shite). Anything worthwhile there can be got in Randoms anyway.

There are a few clubs too, but I didn't get to any.

While there, be sure not to miss the Occupation Museum - easily one of the most interesting museums I've ever visited (and I've been to a few!). It gives a brilliant insight into life in Latvia under various guises of occupation in the last century. www.occupationmuseum.lv

Some photos from there tyo get ya in the mood: http://bebo.com/PhotoAlbum.jsp?MemberId=555697747&PhotoNbr=1&PhotoAlbumId=4985335565

It's a unique, beautiful city. Next time i go, I'll be heading to the countryside - I believe the coastline particularly is spectacular!!

There's a good spot for specialist recordstores in Viiskulma. From "indie" (popparienkeli), to jazz (digelius), hip hop (lifesaver and some other new place) to weirder jazz / avantgarde / rhythms (eronen)

You can find some good shit in the boringly trendy Stupido Shop on the iso roobertinkatu pedestrian street.

Keltainen jäänsärkijä next to tavastia was never my favorite but when I last checked it had improved a lot.

Fennica on Albertinkatu, Black and White in Hakaniemi and Hippie Shake round the corner from there can be alright for second hand vinyl.

heading to the above on monday week for a fortnight an need to find some interesting stores to thoroughly bore my ladyfriend:p

anyone know of any?

Go to this place in St Petersburg!

Art Centre Puskinskaya Number 10, just off the top of Nevsky Prospect at the train station side. They don't make art centre's like this in Ireland!Got well smashed at a gig there.
There's a record store inside as well as a venue/spaces/bar/cafe.
If yu continue past this building down Puskinskaya the next or maybe two entrances down is a metal store with loads tapes, cds and freaky people like yourself. You'll see the posters etc..
Hopefully our paths won't cross when your there.
