Howiyiz as some or all of you know I'm studying music in college to my eternal chagrin. I'm looking for a book that provides insights into or a history of DIY/home recording in the 1970s and 1980s be it in Ireland or wherever.

Don't think there's one book on the subject.
Simon Reynolds - Rip It Up And Start Again - has loads of info about the birth of independent labels like Mute, Rough Trade and loads of others and bedroom recorded records etc.

Cool thanks for your help folks. I'll get those books. I hate when you buy a book that you have to then read it to be of any use. That might sound reta'ded but I love reading books I just hate having to read them in relation to my fuggin' literature review. It's soul destroying. :(
