Howiyiz as some or all of you know I'm studying music in college to my eternal chagrin. I'm looking for a book that provides insights into or a history of DIY/home recording in the 1970s and 1980s be it in Ireland or wherever.

Don't think there's one book on the subject.
Simon Reynolds - Rip It Up And Start Again - has loads of info about the birth of independent labels like Mute, Rough Trade and loads of others and bedroom recorded records etc.

I read that book instead of going to witnness one year, made me feel good about it

Cool thanks for your help folks. I'll get those books. I hate when you buy a book that you have to then read it to be of any use. That might sound reta'ded but I love reading books I just hate having to read them in relation to my fuggin' literature review. It's soul destroying.
