its a good idea. They've had them in the Baltics for a couple of years and the system works really well.

problem is that each country has their own code. We had loads of water bottles that we bought in Finland and we couldn't get them recycled in Latvia due to the different code.

it's kinda weird that i've seen german beer for sale in our local spar, in bottles that have clearly been used multiple times because of their local recycling efficiency.
unless of course they're like stonewashed pre-ripped jeans.
