Prepare for all your favourite classic albums to be 'unmixed'. Boffins have figured out how to extract seperate individual instruments from recordings where no original multi-track masters exist.

No doubt there'll be a new Beatles box set in a few years with 5.1 mixes of their early albums, and oh yeah, Elvis singing with entirely re-arranged and recorded versions of songs.

there'll always be bullshitty re-releases in any case (case in point: nirvana and 'best of the box' etc). i agree with milker, if talented amateurs get their hands on the software it could be interesting.
 
I heard they did this unmixing lark to Only Shallow by My Bloody Valentine and it sounded like Late Night Radio by David Gray.

True story.
