I hear yas. It's the obvious mistake (well should have been obvious ;0) that's always the worst when you eventually cop it. Least I can say I'm definitely getting a lot better at it though.

well you kinda learn by doing/fucking up - and a lot of stuff is transferable, I never 'got' transistor wiring until I started messing with amps. and likewise my understanding of shielding gained (the hard way) by amp tinkering transferred nicely to a few guitars Ive been working on.

looking forward to building that a/booster now (once I get the amp done!)

the oul piezo disks are great craic for making contact mics. alright

a question for you soldering shoguns - Im looking for a nice easy OD circuit - reasonable ammount of gain, capable of being reasonably clean - ie boost with a bit of hair/crunch

ever experiment with sticking a few clipping diodes on the output?

I haven't but it'd be pretty straightforward to do. I'd use LEDs if it were me. I think you could put them on a pot so you can control the amount of signal allowed get to them.

my thinking exactly. set a trimmer on the board, with an on/off/on switch to switching in (on) Ge, (on) LED, or (off) just the straightforward boost.

working on a j201 based booster circuit at the moment that I plan to trial for its OD capabilities - the SHO looks like an easy build tho..
