As well as being a member of The Jimmy Cake and Boys Of Summer, Smyth has toured with Charles Gayle, played with Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Keiji Haino, Barry Guy, Chris Corsano, John Butcher, Lol Coxhill, and Damo Suzuki, been a featured composer in the National Concert Hall, written music for theatre, and performed in 17 countries. His solo performances in Ireland have become rare events, and this is the first in over 15 months.​
