Hi folks,

The Electric Moccasins are a power-trio from County Down specialising in jangly indie rock carry-on. We've recently released two singles which have already received support on BBC Radio stations (Rigsy on BBC ATL and Gerry Anderson on his BBC Radio Ulster Show) and on other smaller alternative stations. We'd like to hear your thoughts on our recent singles which you can listen to and download for free here: The Electric Moccasins Bandcamp Page

If you're on Facebook we'd and would prefer to check out the stuff you can do on: The Electric Moccasins Facebook Page. A wee 'like' of our page would be much appreciated too!

Cheers,
Alex

I don't see how? It's jangly and it's rocky, and it's 'indie' ie. 'independent' because we wrote, recorded and released it all from a shed in our garden. It may even bare some resemblance to the 'indie' genre in all it's many guises, but sure that's subjective innit.

Jingly jangly is not what I think of when i think of a power trio.

This is a power trio

The only power trio is the father the son and the holy ghost. They jingled with the Jangle of Jesus and if you don't accept him into your life you will rot in hell and

I will will punch you in the fucking face for Jesus.

Oh and Nirvana.

Fair do's. We can be a 'power-trio' though. If you listen to the 'Free EP - Old Material' on our Bandcamp page you'll find that it's almost exclusively blues-rock/hard rock a la Black Crowes, Rory Gallagher, UFO et al. And we still play a lot of that stuff live, so in a way what I said is still relevant. I wasn't sure what to classify the new singles as so apologies if there was any confusion. That's not what it's about anyway, I just wanted to hear some opinions on the tunes - both praise and constructive criticism will both be gladly accepted.

"Too loud" is a statement. Not even vaguely resembling something at least half-considered, constructive and in anyway valid. I didn't ask for a barrage of the usual cliquey in-jokes and quasi-witticisms typical of most forums in the country. I'd like to hear views on the music, be they positive or negative; but ultimately constructive. Otherwise I wouldn't have registered to the forum.

Which track did you play? I'm not too sure what you mean. Do you mean the mix itself was too high?

The tracks I wanted people to listen to are Hide The Stars" and "A Place Apart". Considering both those tracks have received significant radio play over the past while (including today) then that would suggest to me that the mix isn't the problem, otherwise no station would've bothered playing them. Perhaps it's something from your end? I don't really know.

I had a listen to the first link there. Sounds good. But 2 comments. First, I think the vocal is too loud. You can barely hear the backing vocal on the chorus. But its nice and catchy all the same. Second, I think jingly, jangly rocky indie songs should be max 2 minutes long (ala the White Wires). I think people's attention waivers if any longer.

Just IMO. Fair play though

Cheers for listening. In terms of the vocal being to loud in the mix, I can see where you're coming from to an extent. We kind of wanted the backing vocal to be subordinate to the main vocal line but I suppose bringing the backing vocal up a bit wouldn't be a bad idea. Like I said the recording, mixing and mastering of these tracks were all a DIY job so they were never going to be perfect. Though we are getting better, and we'll take on your comments. Cheers.

And in terms of the first track being too long, I suppose it is quite a long track. The second track is only 3min 26 long, maybe more in keeping with jingly jangly rocky indie stuff! Have a listen to it as well if you've the time. It's a bit more upbeat.

Alas alas.
I'm worse than an oul one when it comes to loud music,it just seemed the volume on your page was set too high for my delicate ears.
I'm sure you'll be thrilled to know I returned and listened again at a more reasonable volume and while its not my cup of tea really (personally i'd have a more 'snarly' vocal) I thought it was accomplished and certainly worthy of air time.
Better?

Nice one. Thanks for listening and your compliments. And we've done the 'snarly' vocal stuff before for years. Under our original name our first two EPs were a mix of thrash, groove metal and hardcore punk. The third EP then changed the sound totally to a more classic rock/blues rock/NWOBHM sort of feel. Then we changed the name at the start of this year and we released those two singles; "A Place Apart" and "Hide The Stars", which was a total transformation. And we're happy with how they've turned out and we're content in the direction we're going. It certainly appeals to a lot more people anyway and it has got us a decent amount of local media recognition and new fans, which can only be a good sign. Just gotta keep at it I suppose.
