In early 2007, in a small, warm room in Dublin city, five people came together to make an album as simply and as honestly as they could. It was a natural decision for Matt Lunson to sing, for Cormac Curran to play piano, for Ross Turner to play drums, for Eimear O’Grady to play her cello and for Danny Snow to play bass. Stealing hours and evenings from their numerous other musical and theatrical commitments, they carefully built songs about nature and romance.

At their own pace, and by taking a step back from live performance, they found they could share their loves and near misses, their concerns and their regrets. When it came to turning these emerging sounds into the wonderful creations you hear today, Brian Crosby (of Bell X1 and creator of the Oxfam album, The Cake Sale) was nearby to record and then produce them at every turn. Further into the recording process, more instruments began to find their way in: bowed glockenspiel, omnichord, double bass, synthesizers, bowed cymbal, to name only a few. One Day International made their first record appearance on The Cake Sale with ‘Aliens’, as the album is double platinum it’s a high standard to aspire to.

Like the blackbird of their forthcoming album title, whose colour is her name, One Day International lyrically trade in the impressions, colours and emotions experienced during the brief encounters between strangers, lovers and friends and probe all of the expectations and plans that make them possible. On this, their debut album, they expose the confidence before and the vulnerability after a person reveals their soul to someone they meet.
