We’re delighted to be teaming up with Darklight once again for a very special performance by composer Jozef Van Wissem. Jozef will be performing music from the soundtrack of Jim Jarmusch’s “Only Lovers Left Alive” for which he won the Cannes Soundtrack award for best film score at last years Cannes Film Festival. He will also be giving a Q & A on Film Soundtrack Composition.
In 2013 composer/lutenist Jozef van Wissem won the Cannes Soundtrack Award for best score at the Cannes Film Festival for "Only Lovers Left Alive", a vampire noir by lauded director Jim Jarmusch.
The soundtrack was released by ATP records in 2014 and skyrocketed into the charts. Van Wissem's solo albums, "It Is All That Is Made "(2009) ,"Ex Patris" (2010),"The Joy That Never Ends" (2011) and "Nihil Obstat" (2013) were released on Important Records. "Concerning the Entrance into Eternity", his first collaborative album with Jim Jarmusch, was released on the label in early 2012. "The Mystery of Heaven", their second collaborative album was released on Sacred Bones Records later that year. "The More She Burns the More Beautifully She Glows", a track off the album, featured a guest appearance from Tilda Swinton.
Van Wissem has played solo at prestigious festivals like ATP and Primavera and has been commissioned by London's National Gallery to compose a sound piece to Hans Holbein's painting "The Ambassadors". Jozef composed and performed lute and voice pieces for the Sims Medieval video game and played the role of an ex-junky in the upcoming feature film "Red Right Return", for which he also composed the soundtrack.
He performs live film soundtracks with drone pieces on 12 string electric guitar and custom-built, one-of-a-kind lute , and lectures on the liberation of the lute and on composing for film. He lives in New York City.
This show is a once-off chance to catch a master of his art in action.
