by legacy I presume you mean what they inspired rather than what they spawned

The Style Council stuff and Paul Weller solo albums are the most unjustly criticised/underrated records EVER

I love In Utero and Unplugged myself.... that's the legacy we should try to remember.... although bands like nickleback, etc., may not have been spawned without the nirvana hype..... Nirvana were a great band.. it's just a pity that they didn't remain at the fore front of alternative music and not MTV Alternative...
