The Nintendo DS got off to a flying start last weekend, with UK sales topping some 87,000 units in the first two says on sale according to Chart-Track data released this morning.

Compared to previous console sales over the years, the DS was well ahead of the original GBA's launch statistics, which managed 67,000 back in June 2001, while the remodelled GBA SP debuted with 47,000 in March 2003.

The cheap and cheerful DS even smashed sales of fully-fledged consoles, beating the Cube's record debut week of 69,000 back in May 2002, with the likes of Xbox (52,000) and PS2 (46,000) selling decent numbers despite £299 price points.

My PSP has visited my house twice.... and gone again.

Fuck UPS and their stupid delivery times.

Europe to wait months as Sony stocks US with PSP handhelds 5:31PM
Sony has delayed the European release of its PlayStation Portable. The needs of the American market come first. The handheld gaming device - which marks Sony entry into the space currently dominated by Nintedo - has already launched in Japan and is scheduled to be on sale in American stores 24 March. To ensure adequate supply to the American market, however, Sony has taken the decision to put back any European launch, reports Reuters.

'It's been deferred. We were originally hoping for an end of fiscal year (March 31) launch, but now that's not going to be the case,' it quotes a Sony spokesman. 'It is likely to be a matter of a few months rather than a few weeks - it's a matter of allocation.'

According to the news agency, supply of the PSP is already tight in Japan, following the shipping of 1.2 million units to the USA.

it's a seriously amazing looking thing

battery comes with just enough juice to get a few laps of Ridge Racers in and make you go "oooooh look at that beeaaauuutiful screen"

it's charging up now.

waiting....waiting....waiting....

The original screen was much, much nicer. The one that they have now leaves a whole load of trails and stuff. Still a beautiful screen, just not when you try to move something yellow on a purple background - ugh.

Did you get any other games with it?

nah i'm gonna wait until the US release & get some more... maybe wipeout pure. GTA PSP soon too. Ridge Racers has loads of japanese text but it's easy enough to find your way around.

Can't say i've noticed any trailing efffects either.

I just need to find a cheap memory stick duo now so i can use it as an mp3 / video player too... this video converter works perfectly by the way.
