Led Zeppelin musicians Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham have been working on new material.
Drummer Bonham told a radio station in Detroit that the songs could be destined for a new Led Zeppelin album.
Writing new material has been "on the cards" since the band's one-off reunion show in London last December, he told 94.7 WCSX.
But lead singer Robert Plant has not been involved in any of the sessions, he added.
'Phenomenal thing'
"At the moment, all I know is I have the great pleasure to go and jam with the two guys and start work on some material," he said.
"When I get there [in the studio] I never ask any questions. If I get a phone call to go and play, I enjoy every moment of it.
"Whatever it ends up as, to ever get a chance to jam with two people like that, it is a phenomenal thing for me. It's my life. It's what I've dreamed about doing."
He added: "Lots of politics [would need to] get ironed out [before an album could be made]."
Led Zeppelin played their first concert in 19 years in front of nearly 20,000 fans at London's 02 arena in December. Their two-hour set opened with Good Times Bad Times - the first track of their debut album. Original band members Page, Plant and Jones were joined on stage by Jason Bonham - the son of their late drummer John.

i dunno. plant has always been the weak link in led zeppelin (jayzis he was awful) so if he keeps out and they find somebody better then it could be good. depends on how on form jimmy is i suppoes. roy harper could probably do a great job, although maybe he's a bit too old now.

eh, Robert Plant's solo material has consistently knocked the shit out of Page's and Jone's efforts. possible that he's musically matured the best?

anyway, let's just be thankful that we're not going to get any late 70s early 80s pap again.

The last few Robert Plant releases have been great. I also really liked the JPJ Zooma album. The follow up wasn't nearly as good though. And the Plant & Page walking into clarkesdale album was actually really good too.
I'm sure it would be a better album than something like the Stooges comeback.
I'm sure if I didn't hear it first I'd probably buy it.

ah yeah, i agree plant has kept it together reasonably well. i liked his singing style in led zepplin but the lyrics were awful and if he cant do the castrato stuff anymore i wonder would led zepplin work with an old man mumbling about lemons etc. has he written his own material over the years?

new stuff written to be sung as his voice is now could be good i suppose.

once he has the energy i think so.

His solo stuff is really good. Album with Alison Krauss is really great. One of my favourite records from last year. And that Page and Plant album from the 90s has some really great moments on it so I don't think this album would be total shite. Wont happen though.

Plant slams door on Led Zep tour

By Ian Youngs
Music reporter, BBC News

Robert Plant is currently finishing a tour with US collaborator Alison Krauss
Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has scotched rumours that he is to tour with the band, describing speculation as "frustrating and ridiculous".
Last week, The Sun newspaper reported that he had agreed to a reunion tour.
But he has not and will not go on the road with anyone for at least two years after finishing US dates with Alison Krauss on 5 October, a statement said.
"Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with Led Zeppelin," it said.
"Anyone buying tickets online to any such event will be buying bogus tickets."

It's both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head -

The rock legends got back together for a one-off concert, their first for 19 years, in London last December.
At the time, promoters said 20 million people tried to register for tickets as soon as they became available.
Speculation has since been rife that the surviving members of the band, with Jason Bonham, son of their late drummer John, would hit the road for a highly lucrative tour.
"It's both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward," Plant said.
"I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects."

Jimmy Page performed with Leona Lewis at the Beijing Olympics
Plant has been reluctant to consider other projects during his fruitful collaboration with bluegrass singer Krauss.
Their album Raising Sand has earned them a Grammy Award and a Mercury Music Prize nomination, among other honours.
The other band members, meanwhile, are believed to be keen to work together again.
In August, Jason Bonham told a US radio station that he had been working on new material with Page and Jones.
The Sun has also reported that the trio have auditioned new singers to replace Plant on tour.
Meanwhile, guitarist Page was last seen performing Led Zeppelin's classic Whole Lotta Love with pop star Leona Lewis during the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.
