Just spotted the announcements around the web that Mundy has "made history" with the new singles charts...
Congratulations to the guy for selling so many downloads but, 'm not too sure about the "making history" thing.
That's milking it a bit - the physical single in the shops from next week and if he wasn't doing that, the download sales wouldn't have counted. which makes the "first ever with downloads only" claim a tad gnarls barkley.
According to IRMA:
========================================================
This week's Chart Reports include digital download sales from the following providers: Apple iTunes, Vodafone, Eircom Music Club, Sony Connect, Wippit and Bleep. Please note the following:
* The Singles Chart only includes downloads for titles which have physical sales, or are due for physical release the following week.
* The Download Chart includes all titles regardless of physical availability.
* The Total Market Statistics in your report show Single Downloads (i.e. singles chart eligible), Track Downloads (where there is no physical release) and Album Downloads (multi-track).
* The Regional statistics in the IRMA Market Profile are based on physical sales only.
==================================
Either way, it's good to see an Irish artist getting something out of the new charts..even if it is more dubious hype than history.
Don't forget: If you think the way IRMA launched the new charts in Ireland is unfair to independent labels, please support the online petition to suspend the new charts, until such time independent labels in Ireland have been consulted and brought up to speed.
