Any fans? "Sun, Broken" is deadly.
Mugstar were apparently the last band to ever record a Peel Session, which is quite some statement to be able to put on your press releases. Here's another one: they once had a split release with Mudhoney.
This up-and-coming Liverpool-based group have inspired comparisons to the likes of Neu! and Sonic Youth, tackling the urgency and kinetic energy of krautrock with an aggressive, resolutely underground sensibility. Sun, Broken gets off to an assured start with 'Technical Knowledge As A Weapon', weighing in with some classy almost Goblin-esque organ figures and a thunderous, repetitive commitment to the power of RIFF.
Next, 'Ouroboros' is brimming with kosmische energies and propulsive psych minimalism, while it's deconstructed follow-up 'Labrador Hatchet' is a very serious contender for the finest song title of the week. The album's stand-out is surely its thirteen-minute-plus closing track, which seems to draw all the band's defining elements into a single, long and elegant drive towards oblivion.
They're touring with Moon Duo this summer, no Irish date yet but they're looking for bookings around Europe in Sept/Oct, hope someone can get them over!
