I think FB calls it the four frame joke or something.
You get a snippet of a meme* but you have to click on it to see the punchline.
FB also does a "stories" thing where you get a gif of a video. You must click to find out what happens next.

It's killing the thing, but the thing doesn't care. It only cares about clicks.
