ANGELS OF LIGHT/ MICHAEL GIRA

"Eerie, relentless, as beautiful as a rainbow in a crack pipe." – Mojo

"Meticulously crafted yet vibrant and visceral…A magnificent, hugely welcome
return." – Uncut

Once the driving force behind the brutal nihilism and sonic extremity of
seminal 80’s act Swans, Michael Gira has abandoned the noise to embrace the
acoustic implosions of Angels of Light . Their third album, ‘Everything is
Good Here, Please Come Home’ was released earlier this year to widespread
acclaim.
As their creator says:

"[Everything is Good…] is a gift for the befuddled, the rancorous, the
deluded, the chosen, the failed and the insane, the crazed and misguided,
the spiritual seekers, the hungry, the numb, the inveterately passive, the
secretly angry over-achievers, the blandly normal, the well-primed
consumers, and the mildly, distracted and curious."

"Everything Is Good Here, Please Come Home’ is OUT NOW via Young God Records

DEVENDRA BANHART

"Imagine Marc Bolan creeping around the Addams Family mansion with an
acoustic guitar" – NME

"Something highly personal, spectral, and very special." – The Wire

Just 22 years of age, Texas-born, Venuzualia-raised, Star Wars christened
Devendra ‘Obi’ Banhart is sure to be one of the hottest tips for 2004. With
two releases under his belt this year already (debut full-length ‘Oh Me Oh
My…’ and mini ‘Black Babies’) his fragile, other-worldly, psychedelic folk
has already been compared to the likes of Syd Barrett and Marc Bolan. "He’s
such an extreme case of individualism without even trying" says Michael Gira
who signed him to his Young God label. "You open up an attic that’s been
locked for 50 years and there’s this magical, private world complete in
itself."

"Oh Me Oh My The Way the Day Goes By The Sun is Setting Dogs Are Dreaming
Lovesongs Of The Christmas Spirit," AND "Black Babies UK" are OUT NOW via
Young God Records

Is the limerick date with Estel then?
Estel - what have you to say for yourselves?
YEAH, can confirm now that Michael Gira & Devendra Banhart have been added to the ESTEL Halloween gig in the High Stool in Limerick.
Kader Fire are also playing.

Yip both were great in Belfast last night and Mr Gira - doesn't pronounce it like Myra - was in great form too, reminding the girls that he was selling knee pads amongst other merchandise.

cool. anyone know what the story is with tomorrow, how many tickets are on the door and around what time will one have to arrive in order to secure admission?
anyone want me to bring knifed/sci bong records to the gig for them? only €6. might set up a stall. heh.

being that gira didn't play the song i most wanted to hear, it was just as well that banhart was sooooo good.

Rarely does a person with an acoustic guitar leave me weeping tears of joy.

And neither did Gyra. But he did leave me quaking, and that's a first.
I don't think I've ever felt genuinely star struck before, but I was sort of like a 12 year old girl at a Westlife gig last night.

I was very very VERY drunk.I was enraptured.I was floored.I had a bit of a lump in my throat when he pulled out "New Mind" at the end.I made a fool of myself by gushing at him after the gig.He was incredibly nice.He called me sir.
I am a very very happy (and very hungover) man today. What a fucking gig indeed.
That Devendra person was great as well, never heard any of his stuff before, but thoroughly enjoyed it.

hmm, yes, i too was rather hungover this morning. this is what happens when i'm so excited by a gig that i need yet another beer afterwards just to calm down.
