Hidden Agenda welcomes one of hiphop’s most experimental artists, Jay Electronica to Whelans for a very rare live appearance. Born in Now Orleans and having lived a homeless, nomadic lifestyle throughout his early years, the enigmatic rapper quietly gained acclaim with his track “Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge)” a truly powerful 15min piece without drums released on MySpace.
This was an early sign that this was a hiphop artist intent on doing things differently. His first collection of music came in the form of the Style Wars EP, which was recorded in Detroit and features J Dilla beats. The track “Dimethyltryptamine” proved to be an underground hit and has featured in countless hiphop mixtapes since it’s release remaining a timeless classic.
He releases music in his own time & in his own way - "Labels know that they have to deal with my terms”. He now has over 50 tracks online, released through various channels, with Exhibit A & Exhibit C remaining his only official single releases (Exhibit B remains unreleased). Seminal track “Exhibit C”, dropped in 2009, ranks amongst one of the top hiphop tracks of the past decade.
Now signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation with his debut studio LP “Act II: Patents Of Nobility (The Turn)” said to be completed and ready to be released.
