Would i be right in thinking that this means the person posting is from baldoyle?
I suspected the person was from baldoyle to begin with.

pete edit: took out the IP details. just in case.

it means that the server that they're using is probably based in baldoyle (unless, for some reason, irish broadband have decided to name their servers after dublin suburbs but actually locate them in alaska or something - this is pretty unlikely). as a matter of common sense, people in the baldoyle area would probably be hooked up to the local server. however, it's not always the case. just recently i was looking up an i.p. number and it gave me a result of cork, whereas actually the person was based in dublin - this was because they were using the network that they had in work, which happened to be set up to feed everything through cork.

might be worth looking it up in a couple of different places to see if there are any discrepancies - where did you get these results from? i generally use www.dnsstuff.com.

Being a wireless ISP, IBB are setup a bit different to yer traditional telephone line or cable operations.

Their high site masts are all geographically named, for example "83.141.117.2dn05-as0-0-esb.irishbroadband.ie" is a radio mast on the roof of ESB head office on Baggot Street, "62.231.52.154dn04-as0-0-guinness.irishbroadband.ie" is on the roof of a Guinness building etc.

The last hop is the customer's static IP & is named after the high site they're connected to. In this case, it says Baldoyle, but this doesn't necessarily mean they're in Baldoyle - it just means the aerial on their roof is pointing at a high site in Baldoyle, but they could be up to 5km away from it, in any direction.

edit: this applies to Breeze, not Ripwave users.

Is there any way of actually just finding where the actual computer is?

I've found that if you Google the IP address you might find something. Some guestbooks and stuff will show the IP address, so if this person signed one, you'll at least have a screen name for him.
Then you can google the screen name and see what happens.........

I'm not too computer minded, but that's gotten some results for me when pricks get uppity
