'A lot of our dreams lately have been sound tracked by Jeremy Jay and his ghostly pop. ' Fader

'Jay's debut on Calvin Johnson's K Records showcases his dual passions for '50s doo-wop and French chansons, which coalesce into lo-fi, reverb-saturated pop' XLR8R

'Jeremy Jay appears to be a man out of time.” Pitchfork
Jeremy Jay lives in AngelTown by Larchmont Village in an apartment
on South Gramercy Place. He's tall (6'3), blond (really), handsome and wants a cat for his apartment. He writes and plays piano and guitar. He says one of his favorite things to do is drive around with the moon-roof open and listen to music with his friends. It seems that he's both a small town boy and a big city boy in one. He often hangs out at the cafes and goes to the vintage stores around town. A total movie and music fanatic you can often find him at Ameoba music in Hollywood cruising the movie isles and the record staxx.

Jeremy was born in Southern California where he lived as a young child. His family then moved to Monterey where he lived till he was 18. His Mother was a great musical influence; while he was growing up she listened to mostly French music like Jacque Brel, Francoise Hardy, and Edith Piaf. French romance and sensibility are what he relates to most. His Father, a native resident of San Diego, came from a deeply musical family. Through this Jeremy was influenced by classical music in his formative years. As a child his fascination with fantasy began with stories like “Mary Poppins”, “The Neverending Story”, and “Time Bandits”.

Very excited about music, Jeremy's writing is influenced by dreams and the more fantastic surrealist sensibility linked with the French New Wave. The Art deco era storybook romance of the movies like ' Our Modern Maidens' & 'My Life To Live' held a special fascination. There's also a strong ‘50s Rock n' Roll sensibility happening; Buddy Holly is one of Jeremy's favorite singers along, with Richie Valens and ‘60s era Yea-Yea Francois Hardy.

On the surface, his performances seem like that a pop singer: dancing, singing and playing guitar. Yet he's so illusive. If you reach out to grab him you wouldn't touch anything; all you see is a character from the Dream World. Like Buddy Holly, Peter Pan and the John Hughes movies rolled into one. He's pure Storybook.

Wah! Boo!

When shows like this are cancelled, it's cos of poor ticket sales right? But I'd never buy a ticket for something like this in advance, cos I know it won't sell out. Vicious cycle.

Anyway, as I was saying... boo.

Saw him a few weeks ago and he was good, but his live performances loses some of the charm of his recordings.
You're not missing *too* much so...

Jaysus, i hope the Throw Me The Statue show in a few weeks is still going ahead...
