Just buy a new one.

A bike is like a bed or a TV. You spend so many hours with it, that it's worth whatever you spend on it.

Stay out of the pub for a weekend to save the money and you will love that wheel even more.

The more i look around on the internet the more i'm thinking that alright.

It's got an SLX hub, that why i thought it was worth getting a new rim and rebuilt. How much would a new wheel cost?

not much of an answer maybe but you can spend as much or as little as you want on a wheel. I'd spend around 60 quid for a wheel on my hybrid, and that'd get a pretty decent wheel. For the racer I wouldn't spend less than 100 euro, but thats not for a commuting wheel. I'd spend less on a commuter if I was commuting on the racer.

I'd tend to steer clear of this option. Building up a wheel can be a pain in the hole, and even when you have it built you mightn't even get it right. Even bike shops tend to have a wheel specialist. Its something you need to do regularly, and even if you've built a lot of wheels and then don't build one for a while, its hard to get back into it.

Plus, a wheel is a kind of important thing. I don't think I'd trust any wheel I built myself.

check out chainreaction or planet-x (own brand). They have the best prices around in my experience. You'll find plenty of reviews too.

Fair enough, I guess it wouldn't be worth your while if you didn't enjoy the build. I like it. It's a bit like knitting, except knitting is horrible and building wheels is fun.

My bike is a commuter with 700 / 35c disc wheels, i can find any on chain reaction that match that. Where did you get you wheels for you commuter?

local bike shop (hollingsworth, templeogue village. By disc wheels you mean disc brakes? I don't think theres anything special about wheels in terms of brakes. For disc brakes the disk sits outside the wheel (between the wheel and the frame).

I've been in God knows how many bicycle accidents down the years. Have had stitches, surgery, the lot. Scars from head to toe, literally.

I came here cos I just bought a helmet after decades of commute cycling, a few years of bike couriering, summer touring etc without wearing one and wanted to see what was said and then I read this guff. You either only cycle in places where all drivers go out of their way to run down cyclists, or you are not a very good cyclist. I strongly suspect the latter.

Just to second the recommendations from earlier in the thread. Cliff in 2Wheels on South William and teh lads in the workshop in Think bike Rathmines are top class wheel builders.
