I have cycled home or back to friends house blind drunk more than once having no memory whatsoever how I got back there. Haven't done it in a few years now I would be angry if it happened again I think

Yeah, without an accompanying figure to say how much cycling has increased, it's a pretty meaningless figure. Like, if cycling has increased by 150 %, a 16 % increase in deaths would mean that it's probably pretty safe. However, if it only went up by 5 %, then the increase in deaths would be worrying.

If you had the inclination you could build it yourself over a couple evenings' telly-watching and drop it in to a professional to be trued and tightened? ThinkBike in Rathmines do it for €15.

It's got an SLX hub, that why i thought it was worth getting a new rim and rebuilt. How much would a new wheel cost?

Just buy a new one.

A bike is like a bed or a TV. You spend so many hours with it, that it's worth whatever you spend on it.

Stay out of the pub for a weekend to save the money and you will love that wheel even more.
