Hmmm, surely the link to the club gets more tenuous the further the people are from the club or its matches are though. It's hard to attach fighting on O'Connell St. to Celtic. It doesn't make a lot of sense. The issue is one for the Gardai and not at all for the football club. Rioting in cities when Rangers happen to be playing there is an enduring feature and a direct problem for that club.

I wonder. I know people who identify so strongly with English soccer teams, that they're in a bad mood for days on end when they lose. I can't understand it personally, but their devotion can't be doubted. They'd scoff if you accused them of being anything other than a 'real fan' (however you interpret that). I'm sure you don't need telling this though.

Then theres the added misconception that Celtic are somehow Irish and that somehow by supporting them, you are helping the cause for Irish freedom
