[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]25th November is celebrated as ‘Meatless Day’ throughout the world. Thousands of people on this day take an oath not to touch meat. The objective is to make people realize the benefits of following vegetarianism. International Meatless Day is widely followed in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The governments in these states issue instructions to all slaughterhouses to shut shop. To spread awareness about this day, processions are held in various cities like Pune where school and college students participate in large numbers. To propagate this idea, newsletters are distributed between the month of August and November.
