please join bohs punks

in signing here if you haven't got a fucking clue who any of the named people above are and wonder why someone feels the mention of their names is important in getting you to sign a petition.

i don't know, it's nearly enough to make you go and dress up as a camel

If you want to find out who these people are and not just act the fucking smartarse, use the "search" button (you're on the internet - it's called learning something new).
Said is a guy whose written a lot and worked a lot for the Palestinian people.

Zinn is a guy who wrote an excellent book (among many others) called "A people's history of the united States" which looks at history from a different point of view to the usual bland texts.

Albert runs a great resource called z-net, which can be found at www.zmag.org and has articles by people like John Pilger and Noam Chomsky among many others.

Bohs Punks, the list is just to say that it's not an anonymous petition and that people have put their name to it - it's to encourage others, if you don't need encouragement then my hat's off to you. A full list would take up the board.

Maybe i should have put the names of a shit fucking northside football team on there to get you hot.

well

you seem to have informed me , poor dumb footabll fan that i am who a coupel of these peopel are and now my ignorance about them is broken, and yes you can find out these things on the net, naomi weisstein appears to be both a feminist actiivst though now very ill and also a neuro scientist who is into vivisection i.e torturing animals. matthew rothcchild seems to be some kind of medie luvvy from a liberal perpective who runs an opinion piece syndication agency in america, go bohs punks, you can use a search engine.

the point remains however that surely i should make up my own mind on the issues in hand regardless of what any of these intellectuals think , and then if i find myself to be oposed to the war on iraq i should think about whther a petition is a good way to stop it, more effective than protesting in shannon say, and then if i think a petition is a good thing i could then look at who it should go to , what it should say etc.

my problem seems to be that little old me thinks i am capable of thinking about these things myself and deciding on my actions without the encouragement of the names of these peopel, aren't i a smartarse for thinking that?

personally i think that being encouraged to do something because lists of the great and the good are doing it is an insult to a) my intelligence and b) is against the kind of "democratic"principles the great and the good seem to be into.

I still don't know where the petition you feel is importand goes to, it doesn't sseem to say, will it be sent to bush? does he listen to such things, will it go to exxon, is this a good tactic? i would be interested in them things if you have the time, maybe i should search for them on the net?

and as for your refernce to the names of a shit fucking northside football team making me hot , i dont think they are shit, in fact they are rather good in a local football, non premiership branded kind of way and i find the term "get me hot" a bit cliched to express my emotions, sounds too seventies porn for me.

anyway thats just my opinion, dont lose any sleep about it, we are probably squabling about shite. happy christmas.

anyway lads and lassies, daniel o donnell, dana and steve collins say vote against divorce

Hey, I didn't say that being a football fan is what makes someone dumb - don't put shit there that isn't..

"naomi weisstein appears to be both a feminist actiivst though now very ill and also a neuro scientist who is into vivisection i.e torturing animals. matthew rothcchild seems to be some kind of medie luvvy from a liberal perpective who runs an opinion piece syndication agency in america"

One of the reasons for putting these names up there was to show the diversity of people signing (and not their importance, which you kinda got hung up on). Of course if you only sign petitions when you agree 100% about everything with everyone else who signs then I guess that speaks for itself.

"surely i should make up my own mind on the issues in hand regardless of what any of these intellectuals think , and then if i find myself to be oposed to the war on iraq i should think about whther a petition is a good way to stop it, more effective than protesting in shannon say, and then if i think a petition is a good thing i could then look at who it should go to , what it should say etc."

Of course you should how does providing an initial list of names say otherwise? Is your ego so easily bruised? What has that got to do with "democratic" principles? As for what happens to the signatures they'll be published in "The Nation" (www.thenation.com) and then updated on the z-net www.zmag.org site as more names come in. The objective is not that Bush sees the list and says "shit, I guess I should stop"; it's for when the news or newspapers state that there is little opposition to a "war" in Iraq that anyone with access to the internet can give a documented source which disproves this.

I still don't know where the petition you feel is importand goes to, it doesn't sseem to say, will it be sent to bush? does he listen to such things, will it go to exxon, is this a good tactic? i would be interested in them things if you have the time, maybe i should search for them on the net?

Just ask.

"anyway thats just my opinion, dont lose any sleep about it, we are probably squabling about shite. happy christmas."

Always happy to discuss this shit. What I don't get is the immediate opposition to any action, positive or negative if it's not perfect for everyone. Take this petition - you don't need encouragement, fine others might. Some people don't even need to be informed, cool good for them. I don't think this petition will do a whole lot, but the time it takes to read and sign is tiny, and it's got to be a step in the right direction, even if all it does is give anti-war groups statistics to use against war mongers. Before I posted this I looked for its equvalent on the forums and there wasn't one. If anyone has better ideas get 'em out.

Squabling, no. About shite, no. Happy christmas right back at you. For anyone who's interested there's a link on the Nation's home page to a letter writing campaign which could be adapted for Shannon.

..

im completely sick of this internet based miscommunication/misinterperatation etc..

If you guys were talking about this in a pub or over coffee or at a gig i bet there would be no silly bickering over "you said this" well "you said that" ..

I've had intense forum arguements with ppl and then upon meeting them in the REAL WORLD Loved them to bits and found out we have lots in common..

I don't know if I'd call it miscommunication. It's discussion, refining and exchange of ideas. Once people make the distinction between expression of ideas an the person themselves then all is cool. Happily enough we don't all agree and happily none of us are 100% spot on everytime we open our mouths, it's what these forums are for and it's a healthy thing. The thread with pete and this one with bohs punks are ultimately good things, I know they've made me think a bit more and of course people who don't think so can always not read them, it's called choice. I'm sure the discussion in a pub or café would be a lot less interesting because on a forum like this you've got time to read, consider and think before you reply.
In theory anyway.
