my teacher in fourth class (now a TD on the opposition front benches) had a sorta contest thing where he'd encourage us to bring in iteresting and unusual types of sticks with which he could beat us. some poor thick young lads used to actually bring sticks into him and in fairness to him he did then use them for hitting his 9-10 year old pupils.
