On a scale of 1 to totally?

Almost every time I switch on it boots for a few seconds, the turns itself off.
Its most recent trick has been to hang indefinitely on the Windows XP screen, until I switch it off,I have to alternate between "last known settings" and "Start windows normally" until it eventually boots up properly.

Anyone have any ideas whats up or what needs replacing?
AVG,spybot and adaware showed nowt so Im guessing it isnt virus related

Could be hard drive errors. When was the last time you ran a disk scan or defragmented your drive?

Did you add any new hardware lately? Something similar was happening to me when I upgraded my pc... turned out that the power supply wasn't able to handle the load at startup.

There are quite a few things that could cause that kind of problem. Basically it is a process of elimination.

How much hard-drive space do you have free?

how fucked is my kitchen jimmybreeze?!

ye bollix!

cheers for the bottle recycling though

right click my kitchen > manage > event viewer > askmebollix. :D
worth it for the tasty meals tho eh!?
Cheers for the hospitality tho :)

right click my computer > manage > event viewer > system log.

check for disk errors in there.

Hmm,its coming up with a load of errors for the cdrom.
(I have a dvdrom and a (seperate) cdrom, both are connected,no idea why yer man did that),might open it up and try uninstall it,iv disabled it anyway
A few service control manager and DCOM(?) errors too.

Sounds like your hard drive is failing.

How old is the machine?

Yikes,bout 2/3 years old.
Simple and painless as buying a new internal drive, backing everythin up to external and copying it back on?
