She'll just have to sell it so, can't say it's a situation you'd feel sorry for her about, she's been given a house she can sell and keep about 70% of the proceeds from.

She quite possibly doesn't own her own home and sometimes a deceased person always said wanted the person who inherits the house to have a roof over their head so they may feel that their uncle's wishes has to be honoured. Of four siblings there has to be a reason why her uncle picked her to get the house. Maybe just sentimental emotions involved.
Whatever happens hope house is occupied before long.

Another house / shop up the street is a disgrace now - gutter falling off etc.
A 90 y.o. man who ran small grocery / hardware shop almost until his death left it to his sons living in Dublin and it has just been left to rot for 5 years.
The sons are intelligent men - one had a senior job in one of biggest hospitals in Dublin. No idea what they are thinking letting this happen.

Not many empty houses in my village. At times there has been no property on market here for long spells. All houses built here in last 25 years were by council. 5 or so farmers own all land around village - one 17 acre plot of partly marshy land was sold to another young farmer last year for 400,000+.

A couple who bought their own place 2/3 ago left their council house in village.
The council insisted on putting the house back as it was in line with other neighbouring houses.
Every improvement the couple had made was ripped out e.g. they had replaced the windows with better quality ones. The woman getting the house wasn't given a chance to look at it first. Ten of thousands of euros in waste - everyone was disgusted especially family of departing couple.

EDIT: Fixed some typos

i don't think she has many options - she needs enough cash to do it up, *and* pay about 30% tax on it. neither of which she has, by the sound of it.
sell it, and walk away with a nice fat deposit for a house of her own.

She must be at least in her 40's so this might be her only chance to own her own house (and in place she grew up in). Other than that you're probably right.

If only there was an asset that she owned which could be put up as collateral against a loan for the cost of renovations etc.

This is a horrendous story. A crossbow was the murder weopan.

Just to clear up ay confusion because I took the report the wrong way, the man pictured is the suspect, and not the husband of the woman who was killed who was named in the item due to him working for BBC radio.

all german schoolkids learn that political representations of humans as rats is a big no-no, it’s like one of the central examples they use of nazi propaganda in the 1930s

a couple of days ago, one of the main german-speaking pro-zio accounts on twitter (run by a guy who is a german-speaking former idf spokesperson) posted this:

the text translates to “it’s just a question of time”

there are all sorts of queasy responses from normally-super-pro-israel germans in the replies, saying, basically, does not compute, please stop making us feel cognitive dissonance

such a fucked-up country

anyway it felt a bit hellworld-ish

Meanwhile, there's a meltdown on Twitter because an Irish person said "Your Mammy's calling you for your dinner" to(what turned out to be) an African American in the course of an argument.

No amount of explaining will convince the entrenched that this was not the most racist thing they've ever experienced

I don’t understand this transaction.
