“As any keen student of Irish music will tell you, Len Graham is one of the most majestic singers on God’s earth.” Folk Roots
“Breatnach has always been a cerebral musician, inhabiting every corner of his tunes and fingering their deepest secrets with the dexterity of a three card trickster…” The Irish Times
Happy to Meet, Sorry to Part heads across the Irish sea to explore the Scottish roots of traditional Irish music, exploring the countless affinities between people and places, language, music, songs and lore. In celebration of this rich cultural exchange, the tour brings together singer Len Graham, whistle player Cormac Breatnach and percussionist Brian Fleming.
As well as being blessed with a voice that others can only dream of, award-winning singer Len Graham has that rare knack of being able to evoke the past while making traditional material his own. His selection of songs, mostly from Ulster, draw on common experiences of love, war and emigration.
A former member of the Donal Lunny Band and Deiseal, virtuoso whistle player Cormac Breatnach knows a thing or two about musical give-and-take, having performed with musicians as diverse as R&B diva Vanessa Williams and jazzman Richie Buckley. On this tour, he will play a variety of dance music and airs, with rhythmic support and more than a dash of colour from Brian Fleming on bodhrán and bones.
This will be the first of five tours in Music Network’s 2009 Spring Season. Other tours this season include Gyan Riley Trio in February, Badke Quartet in March, Rastrelli Cello Quartet in April and finally, another trad tour in May with The Long Note featuring Tony MacMahon, Angelina Carberry and Allan MacDonald.
