The sprog's going as Legolas, 5 years late for me to just pick something up in a shop.
So far the costume's coming along nicely but I'm not too sure how great an idea it is for her to go out with a real bow and arrows. It is the north side though.

i dressed as a mummy one year, terrible idea. bandages unravelling with every step, plus wet dirty streets = awful mess.

possibly not as bad as my idea to dress as a bunch of grapes one year would have been, luckily we couldn't find a packet of purple balloons anywhere at the time

then again....

there were quite a lot of bullies on our road though, might have ended up having rockets fired at me or being set upon with sparklers

We have the opposite problem - the older they get, the less concerned they are with looking scary and more interested in looking cute. Sar went as a vampire a few years ago and insisted on doing her own make-up: the end result was a face of 1% white facepaint, 49% black greasepaint, 48% fake blood. Amazing.
