FWIW I agree with pretty much everything I is John said here. People say shocking things to each other to make one another laugh, and the shocking-ness is the source of the humour. Also, your workmates are very often your friends first and foremost, and you're hardly going to change the way you communicate with them when you're "on duty"

An apology is a bit pointless now that it has long since blown over,rte/the guards got to discredit those involved while the story was still fresh and unfortunately that's what most people will remember of it.
