Makes sense re: the immigrant thing. Actually I picked up a cd by this crowd of Parisians of Russian extraction-the name of which escapes me (something to do with the Russian word for rabbits -the Krollicks?!). Really interesting stuff-like a dubby Sci-fi cabaret band who do Nirvana covers-in French. Sounds bonkers but really works.

French band Tank have an amazing "krautrock" album called Bedtime For Rio.

And Spacecraft ("the French Cluster") have a superb album called Paradoxe.

this is deadly, Françoiz Breut, she records with the Calexico boys a bit, lovely dusty chanteuse stuff. Marvelous.

I'd recomend this album by Camille, though her new English language is meant to be good too. This one, Le Fil - The Thread, is mostly made up of her voice, maybe a bass or drums, but her voice makes all the sounds... back before Bjork did with Meduella before someone wades in... also the whole album has a drone running through it of her singing two (very close) notes... this sounds like it would wreck your head and limit the album in terms of musical range, but it actually works really really well...

Also they're both lookers, so yay for that too!

Two great records Pants. Have that Un Saison Voleé but have yet to get any of her other records. I wonder if they're as good as that.
All those French lads that play with Calexico/Giant Sand have made some great solo records -Naim Amor & Thomas Bellhom (he's the drummer with Tindersticks now) and the ABBC record they did with Convertino/Burns is worth checking out too.
Yer wan Marianne Dissard who does the French vox on 'Cable Hogue' has a really good solo record. Howe Gelb's all over it.

Just got the latest Camille album at the weekend. I don't think it's as good as 'Le Fil' tbh. It's a bit too glossy. I still would, natch.

neither have I actually, I know one got good reviews... in a way Un Saison is so good you wouldn't want to ruin the dream by hearing a bad record... yr man who writes with her has a good few projects on the go, never heard them, but this arrangements are great

a know a lad that knows a french lad that has a 14 minute accetate version of this...can only image how wonderful that is.

oh and plenty whats said above. and if your into that kind of thing lots of French prog is worth checking out. Also have been dipping into the 70's French acid folk scene, seems mostly confined to the north west, pretty new to it but seems well worth while, Emmanuelle Parrenin has been a great discovery of late
