The Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely, Co. Wicklow is embarking on an experiment during the second half of 2002. Because of a shortfall in our funding this year, we are suspending most of our normal programming, particularly in the performing arts, after May. We would like to turn this misfortune into an advantage, though, by offering the Centre as a workspace for theatre companies and other performers, particularly from Dublin where rehearsal space is at a premium.
WE ARE OFFERING THE SPACE RENT-FREE! In exchange, we would ask groups to undertake some form of creative interaction with the local community during their stay; either through a workshop or performance. The latter can be in the form of a staged reading, for example, or a preview.
Tinahely is a small but vibrant village, with all basic services: bank, post office, a hotel and several B&Bs, four pubs, high quality food shops and restaurants. Reasonably priced self-catering accommodation is available locally, which we will be happy to assist in arranging. The Centre itself has full and part-time staff on hand, as well as kitchen facilities, central heating, lighting, telephone, computers, Internet and e-mail access, fax and photocopier.
The Courthouse Arts Centre, during the six years of its existence, has offered an exciting and varied programme of arts events, including art exhibitions, concerts, professional touring theatre, literary events, and community arts. People in the surrounding area have had the advantage of easy access to high quality arts experiences, and are open to and interested in all manner of creative endeavour. We believe that groups such as yours could find working in Tinahely a very positive experience--a break from urban stresses, but with all basic amenities to hand.
